When transitioning cats to Daytime, how long do you keep them awake during the day before letting them sleep?

I'm in the process of transitioning my cats to be active during the day, (there are guides), but I don't know how long to keep them awake during the day before letting them sleep. It's supposed to be a 2 week process. One of the things the guides talk about is to prohibit their day naps through forcing them to play. Then they should be tired enough to sleep through the night and not keep the owner up while they're trying to sleep after a long day. But the thing they don't mention is how to go about doing this... do you let them nap during the day, and wake them up before night to wear them out? Trying to keep them awake during the day is tough since they keep trying to sleep despite your efforts to wake them up, such as going to a secluded spot to sleep, in which I would have to move them from to keep an eye on them. I would like to know ways to keep them up. The plan is to get them sleep deprived to sleep during the night, and if you have done this, how did you do it? Do you let them nap and then wake them up later? or do you keep them up until you're ready to go to bed and hope they sleep? I have tried keeping them up until 8PM and then let them sleep.. they then proceeded to run about the house around 10 PM, knocking stuff over and such. Please, no ridiculous answers about sympathy for animals and such... I want to know how to transition them to Daytime activity, not what you think is right or wrong with animals.
