Maine coon "?'s" Are Maine Coons generally slow?(mentally/physically/emotionally). can I take him in the snow?

By slow I mean he walks so dang slow like he 's always taking a "casual Sunday stroll". He's only "almost 2 years old" and I know it's not from hip problems because he can jump up and down from 8 feet with no problem (probably more if I'd let him). He is very large but only weighs (11-11.5 lbs.) a pound more than my tiny 4 year old DSH. His paws and legs are so large and thick. Is he slow because he's trying to grow "into his body". I though Maine Coons were supposed to be quick. He even seems like he thinks "slow" almost like he can't be bothered with any thoughts (especially that of humans). It seems like he is emotionally "slow" also but I think he was abused or neglected by humans (kept in a cage maybe the entire 2 years. I got him Dec 22 2013) and I think he was always (literally) pushed away by humans due to his personality (he comes of as distant, not bright and I think people thought he was annoying and always in the way) and because of hi size. My other cat blinks slowly and raises her head and I do it back since it's a sign of affection. The maine coon will do it sometimes but when I do it back he looks away. When we pet him he is unsure about it but not really aggressive at all (except to the other cat, he doesn't bother our bird though and is ok with one of our dogs) So is it normal for a Maine Coon to be 1. physically slow, 2. Mentally slow (maybe it's his age?), 3 emotionally "slow" as in not sure how to respond to affection by other animals or people (or age)? My 4 yr old cat knows things (learned them quickly) like "you wanna go out?" (downstairs). "are you hungry?", "get down!", "no". "Come on, it's snuggy time get into bed" and others. I just don't know why the maine coon doesn't even really seem to know his name even. Should I just give him more time or are they normally a slower breed or what... It's funny because even though he seems like he doesn't know anything like there is no connection with him and any thoughts or anything he seems like he figured out how to use the toilet without being shown how... I tried to find info on Maine Coons because if there is a reason he is distant and slow that isn't due to his breed (maybe he was hit in the head) I'd like to know. But would like to know if it's characteristics of maine coons before I spend thousands at the vet for possibly nothing. Sorry this is so much... He's just so different from my other kitty who is bonded with me and others, she knows what is being communicated, actually runs and rarely walks slow... Can I let my maine coon out on a harness in the snow (before it melts) for a bit? He has the long hair on his paws. My other cat lays by the space heater and it can getup to 80 degrees. The maine coon will sleep by a window I keep cracked open when its -2 degrees. He seems to like the cold and be fascinated by the snow so is it ok to let him out on a harness with me for few minutes? Thanks for any information!
