So when I was around 7 (14 now) we found this budgie on our back lawn who looked full grown and hand reared, so we kept her because we couldn't find the owners. We then decided to get her a friend (the budgie I'm talking about). She lived out her life, had two babies, and died from complications. But we still have her mate, and a while ago he started flying into stuff. After every time we let him out he flew into stuff. So I stopped letting him out. I give him Trill brand budgie food (i think it's pretty good quality, lots of different seeds) and fresh gum tree branches sometimes, and he only likes this one toy, rejects all others, so I just move that one around to keep him busy. But I feel really bad that he can't come out. I know they see right and left, not straight, but this never happened before when he was a baby (he's 6 or 7 yrs old now). He's perfectly healthy, will come up and nibble my nose (which I think is pretty good since he was an aviary bird) but doesn't trust hands very much, unless he can see food in them, and he sings all day. Main reason I'm wondering whether to let him out is because I got a hand-reared cockatiel last September, and she's about 9 months now. She's always on my shoulder, but the budgie sings to her and will try to preen her through the bars, so I'm thinking he might follow her around, I mean that's what he did with his mate. Worth the risk?
