I have this rat named Rascal, I got him as a "medium" rat at Petco since the October of 2013 so he's pretty old for a rat. But lately he's been making low pitched noises in his sleep, similar to a guinea pig, and other strange random noises, some high pitched and some low. This has been going on for a few days, but since this morning when I woke up, he's sounded like he's had TONS of trouble breathing... He makes noises every single time he breathes. Since then, it's only getting worse. Now he makes body movements with his breathing, as if he's dry heaving. He's barely getting around. He will just lay there looking limp as a log. A few minutes ago I opened his cage door to give him a treat and his eyes opened all the way and he came up to me normally it seemed like. But after he got through eating it now he's back to doing the same thing. Eyes half shut, breathing loudly, laying limply, strong body movements when he breathes. Is he I'll or is he just dying of old age or is there still a chance he can get to the vet and be cured of whatever sickness he has? Or... Is it too late? :( Please help...
