Question: Do I turn off the red light I have on my bearded dragons tank?

I just got my bearded dragon a few days ago. I also got a lamp that has a red bulb in it. I'm not sure what it's for though, all I know is that the person I got it from said that it was important. I asked my moms friend who used to own a bearded dragon and she said to leave it on at all times, though when I looked it up many articles said not to. So i have left it on since I got him. It doesn't interrupt his sleep at night and he usually climbs on a branch to get closer to is it ok to leave it on all the time or should I turn it off at night?
