Hello! I have a 9 month old Siamese mix kitten, and she is my love. Unfortunately, she has a very bad habit. She will scratch her neck/inside of her ears RAW till it is dripping with blood. This is definitely not the first time she has done it. She started the habit at about 6 mths old, and did it religiously. She stopped doing it around November, but has started up again recently. The vet doesn't know the cause, although I know there are numerous things that cause it like, food allergies, fleas, dry skin. But the vet confirmed she has none of those problems, so we concluded that the only reason she scratches herself like this is purely out of bad habit. It's just a terrible compulsive habit that she cannot get out of. No matter how many times we distract her when she starts to itch and stop her from doing it, it wont work. She will do it at night when we do not know, and when we are out of the house. We will wake up to find that she has opened a new one, or opened an old one. They have become infected and she has been on antibiotics, has had laser therapy, cortizone injections, the lot. No matter what ointment, oral medication, or spray we give to her, it will not stop her compulsory behavior. I even know that Siamese cats in particular have bad compulsive behavioral issues like this. My mom is threatening to get rid of her very soon because we cannot afford all the 100's of dollars in vet bills. Will somebody please help me, I am at my last chance here :(
