Question: My dog is still peeing inside the house?

he's a lab or doberman mix ~3 years old. He doesn't use the bathroom in his kennel but after ~3 hours roaming the house he'll go on the carpet. I can't tell you how many times I've scolded him for this and immediately cleaned it up, but he's still not understanding. Typically we go outside every 3 hours to use the bathroom and he always does just fine: runs out, sniffs around, takes a dump, then pees (sometimes twice) then we go back inside. If I know I'm going to be gone more than the 3 hours, I kennel him. He hasn't peed or pooped in his cage at all (except when he was sick) He never has been good at telling me when he needs to go outside. I've seen a lot of dogs that will sit at the door or bark/wimper, not him. FWIW: I've been homing an older min pin for a year who is terrible with bathroom duties...his limit is an hour in the house before he gets crated (I put them all out at the same time roughly every 3 hours). I'm wondering if my dog is learning bad habits from this dog. This dog has no problems peeing and pooping in his crate, so I'm constantly wiping it out (gross!). Is my "3 hour rule" causing the problem for my dog where he thinks "well it's time and my owner hasn't let me out yet, so I guess I better pee"? In addition to Spot Shot, I shampoo my carpets on a regular basis. It's difficult to track where the min pin has pissed on my furniture (so I wipe it all down on a regular basis too) I'll post replies and updates to any responses.
