Question: Should I spay a cat in China?

I'm living in China and I bought a kitten here. I live outside of Shanghai in a more rural area and the vets here seem terrible. Chinese in general don't seem to care much for cats. Cats are mostly wild/strays here. I'm not sure the vet has ever spayed a cat before. Although they spay and neuter dogs regularly I'm sure. But this vet I'm going to is kind of rough with my kitten, doesn't appear to like animals at all and has told me cats have died in their office after getting the Rabies vaccine (which I also need if I want to travel with her) Right now I don't know if I should risk this surgery, which is also expensive! However, if I don't spay her, she can easily escape from my cheaply made apartment that has little holes and crevices where she could easily get out. She has no collar or ID tag (they don't exist here) and my neighborhood is covered in stray cats...there is an overpopulation of kittens born here every day and they usually end up being boiled and cooked! Right now I don't know what to do. Risk getting a botched spaying job or put up with not spaying her and have her drive me nuts with constant yowling or possibly escape and get pregnant! I'm moving to Shanghai next year where the vets are sooooo much better but she will be over a year old by then! Both options seem risky! I've tried two vets already in my area and both are equally bad and young 25 year old guys! I'm not even sure they are properly licensed to be honest! I might also add that my kitten is only about four and half months old right now. So she's not in heat yet (but I guess it's coming) and i had wanted to get the surgery out of the way early!
