Yes, yes. Why wouldn't I adopt a healthy kitten or adult/senior cat, why don't I just spare myself the trouble. I know! But I was looking on kijiji, the land of unwanted furry friends, and his story got to me. The little seven month old kitten is FELV+. He has cancer. And that was it, I began to cry. Right now he lives in a home with two doting human parents and another cat and dog, and while the disease is not transferable to canines or humans their other cat is at risk. I may have jumped into this headfirst straight into the deepend but I believe this little boy deserves to live. He has no symptoms right now, he has all of his vaccines and he is neutered. It isn't clear right now about if he is only a carrier or actively infected. If he is a carrier I just need to keep him away from other cats and he can live a long live like a regular cat. However, if he is actively infected, most cats do not live past three years after their diagnosis. His options are the humane society where I'm guessing they will put him down, because he is a risk to their other cats, become a stray and risk infecting many other cats, or find a loving home with no other cats but maybe some dogs or kids. What is your opinion? After researching this a bit I am not scared on bit of the symptoms and side effects, I understand if he is infected one day possibly not long from now he will need to be put down to safe him from a painful passing. Have you ever had a FELV+ cat, how much did it cost you? I would just like to clarify: I have not adopted him yet, my family is still thinking about it. I'm only scared about the price. I can't afford $200-$1000 medication, chemotherapy or vet bills. But I'm very scared no one will take him, and he will be put down. He still has at least a few more months if not YEARS of happy, healthy play and life left in him. I am heartbroken and I've only seen pictures of him. I don't know what to do, I can't leave him to die but I can't afford enormous bills.
