Question: Dog breathing sounds and panting at night?

My dog is making strange breathing noises. Almost like whining but she isn't upset. It's just like that kinda whistling-airy whine followed by that little *click* sound of the throat like what humans do when they're stressed or crying. Followed by panting. I checked her lung sounds (I'm in med school and have a stethoscope) there are so crackling or abnormal noises. Background: Border collie/aussie cattle dog mix 9 years old Overweight (70 pounds though we've been unsuccessful at trying to get her to lose weight) She just had surgery 6 days ago to remove some lumps. One of them was a lump they were concerned was cancerous (it was leaking fluid when squeezed results in a few days) as well as a lump on her neck. She has a few more lumps but the doc isn't worried about them. They gave her pain meds for 3 days and antibiotics for more than a week. X-rays showed no internal cancer. Her pills are cephalexin antibiotics and carprofen for pain (which she is now done taking). She also had no appetite today (she didn't eat her breakfast in her dish until dinner when I put a spoon of yogurt on it). I'm just trying to figure out why she would be making these noises. She isn't overheating either. We're seeing the vet in a few days to change her compression t-shirt (used instead of a cone). Any vets or vet techs that can offer thoughts? Please and thank you.
