4 days ago, our 80lb Great Dane was attacked by an animal in our woods. Because it was dark, we did not see what type of animal it was. We assume she was trying to retreat because there are no injuries on her front legs or face, only her hind legs. The significant injuries are on her toenail and on the inside of her "heel". Amongst those injuries, there are superficial wounds- all that appear to be bites, not scratches. Initially, she just seemed startled and wanted to lick it, almost in a nervous manner. We cleaned it with Bactrine and coated it in doggie neosporin and started her on some antibiotics (that we had left over from my moms dog). Today was the first day that she's been very active, outside playing, and it didn't seem to bother her. We've noticed it was very swollen and are concerned it's infected since there's a pretty good size gash. There's no puss or discoloration, but it seems to lightly ooze blood when we change the dressing. Is this normal given the amount of activity she had today or should we be concerned that we are looking at the possibilty of stiches? Obviously a vet would be the best to determine but in the meantime, is there any advice aside from starting antibiotics and changing the dressing periodically? Any advice wil help, thanks!
