Question: How do you know when its time to put an animal down?

I'm a huge animal lover.. always have. I have a ferret who has gotten a tumor on its nose about 1 inch in diameter. And now its starting to spread around the eyes. The vet says its kinda risky to take it off and unsure if its causing discomfort She still eats plays sleeps and acts perfectly normal so I cant tell if she's unhappy.. Anyways. How do I know if its right to put her down? I feel like its not my decision to choose when she dies... maybe she's happy and doesn't want to go yet.. ik i'm crazy but I get way too involved. I wish I knew what they were thinking in the way of what if they want to say goodbye to her other 6 ferret friends but I take her away befor she can? >.> ridiculous I know. But its what goes through my mind when thinking about the decision to have her put down... So anyone been in a similar situation? Or any ideas on if I should just let her live till she's old or it spreads too far?:( Thanks
