Question: How long do you wait till you get another dog?

I lost one of my dogs 1 year ago from old age and then i lost my other dog from spinal injury little bit over 5 months :( it was such a hard year for me because whenever i see a pitbull or a poodle tears roll down my face because i get all the memories i had with them and my mother already told me to get another dog so i won't be as depressed but i feel that the wounds in my heart are still fresh :(
