Question: Does a Brittany sound like a good dog for me?

I've done at LEAST one hundred hours of research and have narrowed it down to a few breeds. I WAS going to get an Australian Shepherd, for not only their beauty but also their trainability, but I don't do any herding, nor have a job for an Aussie. So as much as it pains me to do so, I will be crossing them off my list. i love the outdoors. I want a dog that will most likely like water, will enjoy canoeing on the river (it's 30 feet wide at most and shallow enough to stand in most places) trips to the lake, hiking, running alongside a bike for short distances, SOME agility, advanced obedience, and friendly with children (I don't have any but I have young family that visit) I was thinking golden retriever, but I've owned two and I like to branch out. I love dogs so much that I don't want to confine myself to one breed. (I also like that the brittany has a bob tail and can't accidentally sweep drinks off the coffee table!) Does it sound like an okay breed for my lifestyle? I like labs too but I would prefer a shaggier dog best, I like the look better
