I have a Great Dane named Mo who is an unaltered male. I plan to get him neutered ASAP but right now he is underweight and my vet wants to make sure he's in top shape before she puts him under anesthesia. I feed him a good, name brand food and he has regular vet checks. We recently had a fire that killed several of my animals, including his best buddy and his mate. The stress caused him to lose some weight. The remaining dogs besides Mo are his 3 puppies and a daschund mix. This leaves him with no one his size to play with, and he keeps running off to play with the neighbor's dog. We have a fence, and he still escapes. We have put concrete all along the bottom of the fence after he dug under, we have put barbed wire on top after he jumped it, we have kept him inside unless on a leash, he broke Through the door while I was in the shower, electric fence, he pushes through the pain, shock collar, same. We have a huge yard, like 3 acres, and have spent $3600 rebuilding the fence alone, plus $300 for the electric fence, $140 for the shock collar, etc. My neighbor threatened to shoot him because his size scares her kids, so I have to do SOMETHING but I would be risking his life if I put him through surgery in his condition too. I love my animals, they are all utd on shots, heartworm, and fleA protection and they had a dog door to go in or out as they pleased before Mo became an escape artist.
