Hi! So about 3 months ago I adopted my first parrot (other than a budgie when I was like 4). He's a hispaniola conure, or dominican conure. He's about 13 inches in length and hes 12. When I first got him, I left him alone for a while like everyone told me to. After about a month I started interacting more with him to realize he had a biting problem, which really discouraged me. Little by little I trained him to step up on my arm, then on my finger. Naturally, i've suffered a few bites. I understand that i'm a new person and after 12 years he was in shock, but that doesnt mean that the bites didnt hurt. He never broke my skin but he has locked down and twisted. I'm at the point with him that we're getting good at step up and he rarely bites, and if he does it isnt hard, but I still can't stroke him yet (it seems like they never did, he's rescued). I love parrots and one day want a rescue, but how do you tame large macaws or cockatoos w/o breaking a finger or anything?
