We adopted him about two weeks ago and were told at the time of adoption that he had periodontal disease and that he had a cyst removed from his tail. However, shortly after bringing him home we noticed the cyst (or whatever it is) was actually still there. It is raised about an inch from the skin and about the size of a quarter in diameter. We also noticed he was sneezing and had a red sore on his upper lip within the first day or two. We immediately made an appointment and got him to the vet 5 days after adopting him. At the vet he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and was given Amoxicillin. The vet also said the growth on tail could be a tumor but is more likely a cyst or a skin tag, and if no growth occurs then it is likely not a concern. After 5 days on antibiotics his sneezing was at most a tiny bit better, but mostly about the same. However, he vomited on the 5th day of antibiotics so we discontinued the treatment. Since then the sneezing has increased in frequency and the day after stopping antibiotics he began to develop a cough. This has been going on for 2 or 3 days and is becoming slightly more frequent. Today he had maybe 4 coughing fits (lasting 10-20 sec each) and sneezed probably 15 times. I am a first time pet owner so I do not know if this amount of sneezing and coughing is very severe or not. I am also quite poor and I am unemployed currently so I am trying to avoid having to take him to the vet after the recent expensive appointment. HELP!
