Question: Is my betta going to be okay?

I bought my betta a few days ago, he seemed fine at the store so I brought him home and put him in his tank. Almost immediately after I noticed that he wasn t swimming around. I gave him a day to adjust and all he would do was inch along the bottom of the tank having trouble swimming up. I ve only seen him swim up to the top to breath once and it seems like he s breathing really fast. I tried putting food at the top of the tank to see if that would make him better but he didn t even try to eat it. He doesn t have any fish in the tank so he wont infect anyone if he s sick but I just want to know what I can do to help
