OK, so at my grandpa's acreage, I was there to help him and my grandma out with stuff, and right away I saw a red-tailed hawk killing and then eating a blue jay. So, the hawk would eat, and every now and then it'd stop, look around, move its wing to cover the food, and then go back to eating. However, in the middle of its eating, one of the local barncats, an extremely aggressive female, charged out, fur puffed up and all, and attacked the hawk, and the hawk then flew off without even putting up a fight. The cat and her tomcat companion then went on to feast on what was left of the bluejay. Why didn't the hawk try to fight back? It was a good-sized bird, and they're known to sometimes kill and eat cats. It was also bigger than the cat, so it kinda left me wondering why, in this scenario, the hawk just flew off and let the cat eat its food.
