Question: A random pit bull tried to attack me, what will happen to it now?

So I was walking to my bus stop to get to school, I'm 15 btw, when this huge pit pull that was about 5 feet or so away from me lunged at me, knocked me to the ground and bit me in the arm. As soon as I felt his legs come into contact with my body I automatically screamed and put my arms up to protect my neck and face and he bit my arm and nearly got my neck too. The dog stood at least as tall as my self if not a little taller because I'm not a very large person so when he knocked me down I started freaking out and screaming because I thought I was going to die but he let me go and I ran straight to my apartment door which was about 15 feet away and I was hysterical, like I was crying and freaking out because this dog let out the most blood cringing growl and bark before he lunged and I thought it was going to be the last sound I ever heard so I was freaking out haha. Luckily I was wearing several layers of long sleeves so it didn't break my skin or make me bleed but my mum called the management at my apartment to report the owner of the dogs because they aren't even allowed to have that breed where I live but they called the police, had the dog removed and said charges were pressed for what happened and then they pressed separate charges for owning the dog. Now to what I care about, I love dogs especially pit bulls so I was wondering if the dog was going to be out down because I really wouldn't want that but the dog has lunged at a few other people unprovoked.
