Okay, so my dream/ideal career is to train dogs for movies/TV... But I'm hoping to get hired as a dog trainer at Petco very soon as I really need money, and more experience training dogs. I know Petco get terrible reputations about their quality of trainers and what not.... But I've also been an assistant dog trainer for a year and a half back where I used to live, but it was volunteer, unpaid stuff. I wanted to try and teach classes at the local obedience club here, but I'm badly running out of money at the moment (one more semester here for college), and the obedience club doesn't pay their trainers, they all volunteer... I need a job, as well as the experience - which is why I decided to apply at Petco as a dog trainer. So my questions are mostly aimed at other Petco dog trainers - What do you think of your job? Is there a contract type thing preventing you from working as a dog trainer elsewhere (I've read something about this..?), and how long is the training before you can take classes? My other issue is I will be leaving this town in August - I'm not sure if that's too short for getting hired at a store. I've heard you can transfer between stores and I'd be up for doing that - transferring to a location in Los Angeles (which is where I'm moving next....) Any tips? Thanks!
