How to lunge a horse with like a attachment disorder?

Sometimes I have to get in and out of the barn fast and don't have time to tack up and all that so I lunge him. Except he has like a attachment disorder or something because he will follow me even if hes not attached to anything. He literally acts like a dog... lol but i love him :P he's the sweetest horse I know. except its an inconvenience at times like trying to lunge him. So ill start of lunging him fine. then when I ask him to switch sides he'll just come up to me and follow me around when i try to send him off. At first i thought it might be because he doens't like going that way but when i started him off on that side last time he was fine. Hel cuz it's super cute but i can't let him get away with that :P
