We got a 8 week old Shih Tzu last Sunday. We had left him alone for about half an hour a couple times during the week and he would cry a lot but when we got back he wouldnt be crying but he would just seem kinda bleh.. This new movie came out that my family really wanted to see and we knew we would have to leave Arya at home for a while..we were all unsure but I couldnt let my dad feel that this puppy was hindering us from living life freely (hes not too hot on the idea of a dog). So we went, we put Arya in the utility room, with his crate (door open), pee pad and lotsa toys. When we got back after 4 hours the pee pad was full of pee spots and my god our lil baby just went beserk at the sound of us, he was scraping himself against the crate bars just to get to us and shaking and whining and god it just ripped me up inside to see that. He was fine after a few minutes ofcourse but just knowing that this poor thing was alone for so long and this way was so heart breaking. So MY QUESTION is, can we leave him like that for so long? Could that have had a long term effect on him? Or is it just temporary seperation anxiety that went away when we returned.
