My cat is in the hospital due to a severe obstruction of his guy parts. He is bleeding so badly that he has to stay two nights after the surgery (last night and tonight) to make sure his urination has a better chance at resuming regularity when he gets out. The cost of this surgery and preventative measures came to $2k. Right now, money isn't bad for us and I said "let's do it"; but today my wife is regretting the decision. Apparently she already had it calculated that we would use this 0% interest credit card to get my daughter her braces in March; but now there won't be room on it to do that. She said "He HAS to come home tomorrow. Because if he doesn't, we just have to cut him off. I'm sorry, I know he's your cat, but we can't afford another $500 night stay with IV and a catheter to keep him alive." This cat is 7 yrs old. In the morning yesterday he was just fine, so the obstruction and the bleeding happened while we were at work. I know some of you aren't attached to animals, but if you felt an emotional attachment to a cat (half because you were mean to it recently and the other half because you rescued it from your backyard when it was 5 weeks old) would you have put your family in debt or let it get euthanized? My wife comes from a family that care for their cats. Not a single one had major surgery done because they were a dime a dozen. My wife never had an attachment to any of them since her parents treated them this way. Maybe this is why she lacks empathy?
