I bought a leather coral frag today and it was attached to this obnoxiously big shell. I was trying to cut the small piece of shell it was attached to away from the rest of the shell ,hoping to have just a small piece of shell left and the entire frag to put into the tank. When I was about half way thru the shell I took my big knife and went to thwack thru the rest (impatience) and as I did I accidentally cut thru the lower half of the coral stalk at a slant and a small piece of one of the 2 heads on my frag. It was a very clean cut cause there are no jagged edges so I put it in my tank right away. Will it grow it's "foot" back and attach to my rock or did I just kill it? I also peeled the rest of the frag off the shell and figured since there's a small piece of the head on that piece that it might grow into a separate leather coral entirely, but when I did this a white substance came out and diluted into all of my tank water. I'm not too worried about the white stuff tho, because it's such a small piece that not much came out. Should I just throw away the small piece that leaked the white stuff or give it a chance to grow? It was a small frag already, about the size of a quarter, which is why I'm worried being that it is so small that the cut I made might be too much for the little guy to handle. Also are there any types of supplements or treatments I can add to help keep it healthy and promote regrowth? Thanks for any advice ahead of time.
