I recently went away snowboarding for a week and we gave my pup to a kennel in the area, Gate House Kennel. The owner used to breed Weimaraners and he sounded like a great guy and I had a few family members who went to him and were very pleased. We checked out the place and though I couldnt find online reviews it looked pretty solid and dogs get a heated/AC (in summer) kennel place with personal spaces and beds, you bring your own food, and every couple hours they get to run around and what not. I have a 9 month old German Shorthaired Pointer and I thought it sounded like a good place for him. We didn t get to visit him during the week because we were a bit far from the place but we called to check in and everything was fine. I picked him today and I instantly noticed he looked sunken in. I could see his spine bone, his ribs, his hind leg bones were sticking out and he seemed like he was scared to approach me like he didnt even recognize me. When he did he got really excited and whatever I took him home. The owner must ve noticed that I realized that my dog shrunk because he instantly said Oh yea he lost a bit of weight here, and then quickly went about getting my father to check out and what not. I thought maybe I just hadn t seen him in a while or something. I got home and sure enough, he weighed 62 lb when we left and now he s about 50-52 lb and he has what looks like a bite mark on his head to me. There s no scab but some fur is missing and it s kind of a dent. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but is it possible my pup was running around SO much that he dropped so much weight? We have a vet appt on Monday so I'll get him checked out as well but I wanna know. And as for the bite, he's a $2000 quality show dog technically, not that I'm showing him. Could a scar on the top of his head have ruined his chances in the ring? I wanna know if it's worth making a big deal of, I'll still bring it up though, when I call the owner on Tuesday, after I see the vet.
