Rats From: Pet Shops, Rescues, and Breeders?

There are absolutely no fancy/dumbo rat breeders (reputable ones at least) near me. I find that kind of disappointing obviously, so now my only choices to adopt/purchase two young/baby rats (spayed female, male) is from a pet store, or rescue. A lot of people say "Go to a rescue- not the pet shops!" Basically though, a fair amount of the animals that go into rescues were purchased from different pet shops. I suppose then, the reason for adopting a rescue is just to help an animal? I don't like big-name pet stores, but my local Petsmart is exemplary. The staff seem to know their stuff, I've seen them care for their animals, never seen an injured, unhealthy looking animal, and they take GREAT care of their animals. The only problem is where they usually get their stock, but it all depends. Anyway, I would like your personal opinions? Also- just today I saw a new ad on Craigslist near me where a man/woman is selling healthy looking two-month old dumbo babies. Since I would meet in person, this sound like a good idea? Thanks!
