Hello! I currently have a two-year-old male rat (who sadly lives alone, since his brother died about a week ago) and I think I'm ready to adopt more rats. I have been expecting to get males again, until I received an email saying that there were only females left for adoption at the place I want to adopt from. I know that females are very rowdy, but I've never had one before. I'm worried that I will regret it, but at the same time, I'll never know until I try it. However, it's a big commitment. I'm sure I'll like my rats, but what if I totally miss having males? Also, I'm so fearful that they will develop tumors. There seems to be only one or two vets who accept rats in my area, and I don't have very much money to spend on spaying and tumor removal. It's scary. Lastly, how will to young females react to my old, grumpy buck? Are they going to act insane whenever they go into heat? (Don't worry, they'll be in separate cages, at least). So anyway, you can obviously tell that I'm getting stressed out about this. I just don't know if I should try having girl ratties, or if I should turn down rescuing them and just wait to get boys at a crumby pet store? Oiy! I'm freaking out! Oh, and are girls really difficult to handle? Are they easier to train, or are they just too darn rowdy? Thanks :)
