Question: Aquarium filter-I bought an used fish tank with an external canister filter as a surprise for my hubby,can I leave it off (full) for a week?

it's a over 100L tank with a canister filter,well maintained,super clean (had 2 goldfish) and now I am thinking if to fully clean it or replace the media and start all over or just keep it as is. We did not take the fish since our tank has a different setup so it has been drained but the filter canister is still full.Our old tank at home has only two survivals of the tetra family and life plants with an internal filter, I am sure hubby will end up putting more plants and more tetra fish,neons and maybe couple of bigger pieces (not overcrowding) basicicaly starting all over again. What would you advice?
