Question: Is it time to put my 18 year old cat to sleep?

Firstly, this is a very hard decision for me to make. I've had my cat since I was 5 years old and she's always been a huge part of my life. But over the past few years I've seen a steady decline in her life. She doesn't like to be touched very much, she tries to bite or scratch when I do touch her. I think that might be a sign she's in pain. And every so often she makes growling noises (as if in heat, but she's fixed) and I also think THAT might mean she's in pain. She throws up at least once/twice a week. But on a better note, she does show affection to us, she is very clean, and she does have a decent appetite. She just doesn't eat as much as she did years ago (which is understandable). She does like to play still, too.. So in some ways she does have great quality of life. That is why it's a very hard decision to make because I'm not sure what is the right one. As for vet visits, I am very ashamed to say she hasn't seen the vet in a long time, I think her last visit was when we got her fixed. The reason for that is we live out of town (30 min drive from the vet) and I have tried a few times to take her but as soon as she gets in the kennel she freaks out because she's not used to it. And I don't want to put that amount of stress on a senior cat.So if I do decide to put her to sleep the vet will have to come to my home and do it.. Which will be very costly because we will have to pay mileage too, along with the euthanasia. We are not rich and can't pay a $500bill. Thank you!
