Question: My cat had to be put to sleep, how do I stop crying so much?

He went missing for a week and finally came back, we took him to the pet hospital yesterday and it turns out he was dehydrated and his body temperature was low. So then they told us that giving him more water would help and keeping him in a warm area would help, so we took him home and went to the vet today. They found that he had a little bit of crystals in his urine and had kidney failure. I petted him and held him before we left and I couldn't stop crying. I couldn't decide between putting him on the IV for another day or putting him to sleep. I couldn't stand seeing him suffer anymore so I had to put him to sleep, I can't stop crying now and my head really hurts
