any dog my dog sees he instanly wants to get at it and fight?

hes a cross between a american Johnson bulldog and a english bull mastiff,apart from this problem he is a perfect family dog,putting the dog down is out of the question, no problem with humans at all. when i walk him and he sees a dog hes ears will just go straight up and he wil pull and pull hes even gave him self a nose bleed from doing this he will not take his eyes off the dog untill hes a good 50 feet away what do i do ? i brought him off a previous owner, he came with 2 or 3 scars so more than likley hes had fights before. i dont know much about dogs hes just a pet to me but its as if he turns into a show dog when he sees another dog , stands really proud and dominant, this probably will not help but i dont know much about dogs so... ^ the dog is the one in my profile picture
