I got my winter white hamster named Henry two weeks ago from PetSmart. He was so sweet when I first brought him home, he even let my mom hold him without squirming around! After the first few days I only petted him just so he got used to me and I even held him because he was so calm. Now for the past couple of days he's been being distant. He even bit my mom on Monday when she put her hand in to adjust something. He'll sniff, come over to you, then bit you really hard. I tried putting a treat in my hand so he can walk on to my hand and eat it but he'll just bite the sides of my hands...even when I've washed my hands. I REPEAT, I wash my hands before touching Henry, especially when I had food in my hands before. I sort of think he's biting me just to be mean. I broke off a piece of a treat and handed it to him and when he went to eat it, I stroked him lightly but he ran. When he's in his hutch (not asleep he just goes all over the place to explore) I put a piece of food near the opening and he literally dives for the food, surprisingly not taking off my finger) and goes back in. He hissed and my mom and I too when he was awake because we took of this salt lick thing that he didn't even like. I'm getting frustrated. I sort of want to take him back to the store but another part of me doesn't because I'm just mad. My parents and sisters would be upset because they love Henry already. People say that hamsters from pet stores turn aggressive and that you should go to a rescue or breeder. If I take him back and then asked for another hamster from a breeder or rescue center, my parents would be mad and tell me that another hamster would probably still be mean. Is there some thing I can do to stop feeling so badly towards Henry? ): Should I take him back to the pet store and maybe even get a hamster from a breeder or rescue center?
