Are there any universally-known ways of showing your dog is in training?

I am desperately trying to teach my dog some manners (he has developed bad habits!). I really want to find a way of showing the general public that he is in training, and that I'd appreciate it if they kept themselves/their dogs away. Does anyone know of anything I can use to show people that he is a bit wary, can be a bit badly behaved, I am aware of the situation and I am trying to train it out of him? Something that makes them give us a wide berth, or better yet might prompt them to cross over onto the other side of the road to give us some space?
