Black brush algae problem?

About a month a go I increased my lighting quite a bit. It was very low before, so I expected a bit of an algae boom while my plants grew out and I was prepared to do the extra maintenance required, however recently a few pieces of black brush algae have appeared around my tank. It is still very minimal, so I'd like to take care of the issue as soon as possible. I've heard that it can be the result of a lot of things, a lack of CO2, high nitrates, insufficient flow around the tank, the only thing I've potentially ruled out are the nitrates because I consistently do water changes and I have tested it. I've attached another filter to the opposite end of the tank to get more flow in it's "blind" spots, and starting this week's water change I'm going to start dosing Flourish Excel, which I understand has some CO2 in it. If anyone has any other advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everyone.
