It is said that the "Pit Bull" is the most misunderstood dog, so what are those misunderstandings?

I've never owned a Pit, nor do I care to ever own one, but I've learned quite a bit about them on this site, and would like to continue to learn, thus the reason for my question. Many of the things that you might list may be some of the things that I have already learned, but I'd like to see if anyone has something on their list that I don't know. I would prefer if you would answer in your own words, rather than directing me to a website. BQ: To those of you who have owned Pits in the past, present or plan on buying one in the future, what is it that attracks you to them? Is the way they look? Is it their abiltiy to be a friendly family dog if bred correctly? Is it because they have been the breed of choice within your own family for years and years? If a "Pit Bull" has been your breed of choice for a very long time, what other breeds are you interested in, if any. Thanks to ALL who answer, and I don't give any TD's when I ask a question.
