Whenever I look for answers for this, I only find tips for helping new puppies. But my dog is nine years old and this anxiety is new for him. He's always had some separation anxiety, but what really set him off was my father's death a year ago. Ever since, he starts shaking as soon as he can see that we're leaving, and as soon as we get out of the door, he starts crying uncontrollably. We've always kept him locked in a cage, but now he has broken out of it. He destroyed the gate of the cage, knocked down the Christmas tree, ripped up the decorations, and then continued to smile as happy as always when we returned home. Needless to say, my mom is fed up with him, but I've lost so much already and I don't want to lose anything else. We've taken him to vets and they've prescribed medicine for him, but it doesn't work. I've wanted to take him to a trainer or something, but my mom complains about the money. The medicine already cost us alot. Please help.
