I'm 13, I've ridden at the same barn since I was 6 and am very close to the owner and her daughter (my instructor). I have a friend at the barn who's 14 and has only been riding for 2 or 3 years. She rides this horse Daisy, a "children's lesson pony". Daisy is purebred arabian (it's an arabian showing barn) and very very hot. The reason we have a 14 year-old riding her is because she is hopeless as a kids horse even at her older age. She bucks and rears but my friend is a real cowgirl and can handle her attitude. My friend claims to have this intense liberty bond with her (like the ones you see on instagram) although i've seen them free lunge and stuff and it's honestly not that great. Daisy is owned by the barn owner/manager who owns all the lesson ponies. Now my friend, after claiming that she and Daisy have an "unbreakable liberty bond" wants to teach her to rear. I've tried to explain it to her many times that it's not safe considering she's for sale and her size means only a kid would buy her. (My friend doesn't even lease her, just rides her for fun and Daisy's exercise.) Still she brushes it off and is planning to start teaching her soon. What if the barn owner/Daisy's owner decides to go for a ride and discovers this horse can rear? My friend has never done this before and hasn't even successfully taught tricks like 'kiss', 'smile', or 'bow' even. She is hoping to move barns next month to make things worse, what is she gonna do just leave a horse she secretly taught to rear? I want to tell my instructor or barn owner but I'm afraid my friend will get mad. The barn owner hates her and she gets in trouble all the time (Riding without a helmet, feeding a horse the wrong hay or grain). But she's a great friend and I don't wanna stop that or make me look like a barn drama queen. But I also don't want people getting hurt because of my friend's stupid actions. Help? Thanks. Yep I do believe liberty bonding does work, a friend of mine has used liberty to help gain trust of an ex-abuse horse and it's beautiful. But she is doing it safely with the help of her instructor who went to school for liberty training. Sorry if it came off like I didn't approve of it or something.
