Why are some people seemingly incapable of bonding with animals?

Some people, I've noticed, just do not bond with any pets they may have. Unfortunately, my sister is one of those people. They may "like" their pet, but more or less view it as just another possession or even an occasional nuisance (due to the $$ it takes to care for them). I've been drawn to animals ever since I was a baby. I LOVE my pets (a fluffy-tailed gray and white kitty named Rockefeller, Rocky for short, and a golden Pekingese named Rascal). I know their personalities, what their little sounds and body language cues mean, their favorite toys, favorite foods, etc. I love spoiling them. And sure, it hurts my wallet to buy so much pet food, but I don't mind because I love them. If anyone ever hurt them, believe me, I'd feel bloodlust. I just don't get how animals can come in and out of some people's lives, without those people ever forming bonds with any of them. Those people also seem to be the biggest critics of people like me, thinking the compassion we feel should be focused solely on other humans.
