Pleco was growth stunted?

While i was in college i didn't have time to care for my fish tank, so i gave my sailfin pleco to my mom, who insisted she knew a lot about fish. I gave her instructions on how to care for the fish, and she left with the pleco. I came back a year later to find she'd thrown my poor pleco in a 3 gallon tank with a betta who was suffering from bad fin rot (he died shortly after, though i did try to medicate him) The catfish grew to about five inches in that tank. she grew a dent in her tail, im assuming from some bad attempts to grow in the tank She could not swim, and was very thin and all her skin was very scaley. After a few months of her reluctance. I convinced her to put the fish in my 20 gal. As soon as i move shortly (its been a few months since she gave me the fish) i'll move her to a 180gal. In these last few months the catfish has widened a lot, and has much more defined markings and has no longer been clamping her fins. Shes also grown an inch or two. Her tail dent seems to be bending away, but its still noticeable. She swims and eats well. I was wondering though, as i cant seem to learn any infos of this situation, if she'll ever reach full length for her breed I've read that at her age she could be at about a food long, but shes maybe half that. I was also wondering if she'll suffer any long-term condition or if her tail causes any pain to her. And I have had her sexed to female, if that changes anything about her growth rate.
