I am thinking of buying a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have done a lot of research on the breed, but I am interested in hearing about peoples experiences with the breed. Here is some information about me: I am a female who lives alone. I am 18 years old. I am a university student, so I am out of the house for about 4 hours a day. I do work part time, but I usually get a couple of hours between school and work (to spend with a fur-baby) and I will never work more than a 4 hour shift. So puppy won't need to be crossing her legs when I get home! I make enough to be able to afford regular grooming and vet visits, as well as high quality food and materials. I have owned dogs my whole life (usually medium-large size) and generally know what to expect and how to train. The dog most similar to a spaniel that I have owned is a Beagle; and I say they are similar because of their people-loving and food-loving nature. I am absolutely willing to take her for a daily walk (weather permitting, as I live in Alberta and it is quite cold here for many months of the year) and I would spend every moment that I was home with her. Now, the things I am most interested in hearing about are: 1. Do you think I would be a good match for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel? 2. About how much should I expect to pay in vet bills (from your experience)? I know there are quite a few diseases that are common in this breed. 3. Are these very yappy/loud dogs? I myself do not mind a dog who speaks her mind, but as an apartment resident, my neighbours might. 4. How easy are these dogs to train? (I have 4-month summers, so I would plan to purchase this pup early in my school break so as to be home as much as possible with her in her first few months of living with me. Would this be enough time to get some basic training in, especially bladder control?) 5. What other tips do you wish you had known before you bought one of these sweet puppies? Any advice is appreciated, particularly relating to the questions above! Thank you in advance for your time :)
