Were my rats handled?

I got my two female rats from a pet shop called the ARK and I absolutely love them. They are sweet, nonviolent, curious, and they don't mind people. They will climb on you, take food from your hands, and come up to you when you open the cage, the only thing they really do not like is being held, held but if you hold out your arm they will pad across that and stand on it so I can't say they are at all nonsociable because they do seem to enjoy human interaction. I have head from multiple locations that pet shops don't often handle their animals, and order them from mills. According to their website they said they breeded them themselves, so my question is, do you think they were at all handled? Or are rats just naturally sociable, I know your supposed to socialize them from when they are young but is it possible that they were just bred from rats with extremely good temperament. I got them when they were probably a month old. A little information about their living conditions would be a bunch of them in smallish but ventilated breeder containers ((I don't know what they are called but they aren't quite tanks and they aren't quite shelves)) Most of them were sleeping when I came in but a couple were up and about, when I broke up some food ((I'm such a rebel, I brought a cracker,)) they wouldn't hesitate to take it so they had no problem with taking things from people, and didn't seem unhappy ((or at least the one that was up.)) They didn't really label the cages at all though. I've had them two weeks. What do you think? Handled or not...?
