I have a tank (5 gal) where it comes with a filter that requires water to be at top level in order for it to work properly. This is good and all, but I read that fiddler crabs need land. Can i substitute with building a raft or adding tall plants that reach the surface to give them air? If i decrease the water level to 1 gal, the filter will not work and i will need to get an internal one (i own an aqueon internal 5 gal filter alrdy) but I am scared that a small filter wont be enough to support bacteria. Is this ok? Another thing, people say the smaller the tank, the faster things happen, such as salinity, Ph, ammonia, etc changes. Is this true? Aquarium companies make supplements for freshwater and saltwater. should i buy for freshwater since the salinity is so low? Or buy a saltwater because there is salt in it. Last question, people say you need to cycle your tank in order for the animals to survive. If i will be having 1 gallon of water, will that even be neccessary?
